The first concept to know is that many of your basic indigestion issues relate to lifestyle and your diet.

Limit the amount of high-fat foods you eat. It's the fatty foods that slow down your digestive system. Of course you still need a mixture of fat in your diet so pairing with high fiber foods is best.

A high fiber diet helps move things along and lowers the chance of becoming constipated. Irritable bowel syndrome in particular can be helped through eating high fiber foods.

Eat a nice mixture of legumes, vegetables, whole grains, and fruits.

Soluble & Insoluble Fiber

Soluble and insoluble fiber is needed for your digestive tract to work in the most optimum way.

You'll hear insoluble fiber called roughage. The body can't digest it and so it helps to add bulk to your stool.  Insoluble fiber includes whole grains, vegetables and wheat bran.

Soluble fiber includes legumes, seeds, oat bran and nuts and keeps your stool from becoming watery.

Drink Plenty of Water

You must stay hydrated.

Not only to help aid your digestive tract but also to stay healthy overall. Many people today are severely dehydrated. This condition leads to a variety of illnesses and an overall state of feeling unhealthy.

When you don't drink enough water your entire digestive system slows down. This leads to constipation as your stool becomes hard and it can't pass easily.

Thus, the bloating and pain.

Soluble fiber and fats are broken down far more easily when you're hydrated.

Lifestyle Choices

Managing your stress levels and exercising are vital aspects to digestive health.

Get moving!

Light exercise for 30 minutes per day can do wonders for your digestive tract. It brings blood flow to all your organs and helps them work effectively.

Your colon walls become toned through exercise such as swimming, walking or cycling. The entire process helps stimulate all your GI tract muscles.
